Midwinter stainless steel cutlery, made by Arthur Price, was designed by David Carter in the early 1960s, as an accessory for the 'fine' range of tablewares from the Midwinter Pottery company. It was also available from outlets of Arthur Price and was known by the name 'Merlin'. The name 'Midwinter' only appears on cutlery which was sold in outlets retailing the 'fine' tableware ranges, which accounts for the variation in stamps on the cutlery. Various versions of the stamp include: 'Midwinter stainless steel Sheffield England', 'Midwinter Staybrite Steel England', Arthur Price Midwinter stainless England', Arthur Price Staybrite Steel England and many variations. The cutlery was identical - only the backstamp varied.
