Widely collected for its iconic design status, Thrift was designed in 1965 for use in canteens, hospitals, the armed services and other public instututions. During the design process, commissioned by the Ministry of Public Building and Works, the traditional suite of 11 items was reduced to 5. The cutlery has an arrow stamp and date on the handle, together with the manufacturer's name- either H M & Co or Viners.
